The Nightjar

Description of App

Get ready to experience an entirely new kind of spine-tingling game. You’ve been stranded on a dying spacecraft, spiralling into a black hole … and then your problems really start. “The Nightjar” is an incredible ‘video game with no video,’ featuring the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, War Horse).

You’ll have to see with your ears, using only sound to survive all that deep space has to throw at you — “The Nightjar” has world-beating sound design and incredible 3D audio technology. From the moment the crew of the Nightjar run for their lives (leaving you behind in a malfunctioning airlock), you’ll find yourself immersed in one of the most realistic game worlds ever created.

CAN YOU BELIEVE YOUR LYING EARS?

  • Requires headphones
  • Requires iPhone 3GS or later, iPad, 3rd generation iPod touch or later
  • Even better on 4th generation devices, with additional audio effects

“The Nightjar” may well be the best game ever made for headphones and is a sensory experience you’ll never forget, made by a team that’s won more than a dozen awards including BAFTA, IMGA, Sony, GSMA and D&AD awards.

This game is proudly presented by The 5 Experience, a Wrigley’s Entertainment Company.

Accessibility Comments

Similar in design to PapaSangre, however, there appear to be a great many continue buttons on-screen that don't seem to do a great deal. I found it necessary to click Main Menu and then touch a part of the screen manually, or VoiceOver did not refresh properly. Once that was done, it was OK to begin playing the game.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labelling

All buttons are clearly labelled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

I posted an almost walkthrough of the game by accident, as I was rather getting into the gameplay and simply went level by level, ending at level 12. I later found out, while not recording, that the game ends at level 14. It is not recommended to listen to this demonstration if you do not want an almost complete playing, but I provide it for those that do.

If you live in the US, you'll have to wait for this one because it is not yet in our store but they are working on it.

Hi Andre, How did you put your windows sounds on your I Device? Is there anyway I might be able to do that? I would love to change the sounds to the ones you have. I loved that a lot. Thanks in advance.

#4 Availability of The Nightjar

Submitted by Sam Troia on 24 June 2011.

I think it should be mentioned that to date, Friday, June 24, 2011, The Nightjar is available only in the UK and not in the US. I have visited the developer's website and they do not give any indication of a release date for the US or the rest of the world. Anxiously awaiting this one; I keep checking the app store.

#7 Createing an UK Account

Submitted by Daven on 28 June 2011.

Jose, first, go to itunes store in your computer.
Second, Change whatever your current country into United Kingdom,
third, Then Search for "The Nightjar"
Fourth, Click the free download of "The Nightjar"
Fifth, It will prompt you to log in in your account, then just select Create a new account.
Sixth, Just tfollow all the instructions.
Seventh, When you get to the Billing information section, just select "None" for the type of card.
Eight, Here is the tricky part. in the address section, you have to provide a correct address information in UK in order for it to be accepted by the itune store.
Here are the informations I used for it, feel free to use it if you want.
Address: 20-22 Brunswick place
Town: London
County: Home
Zip Code: w11 2bq
By the way that was the address for the Somethin Else company that made the nightJar. LOL!
and lastly, it requires a phone number too, you can use mine as well if you want
Area Code : 0207
Phone: 4024141
By the way that one is the number for the Hilton Hotel in London. LOL!
Note: if you are totally blind and using JAWS12 to use the iTunes Store, I will highly recommend you to ask for a sighted assistance to create this account because on the billing section part where you have to choose a Credit card type, the JAWS is not able to read the combo box, where you have to select ";:none".

#12 Well, I got the app downloaded...

Submitted by billip on 9 December 2011.

Using the instructions on this site, I got Nightjar from the U.K. iTunes. However, when I put it on my iPod Touch 4g, the sound is garbled. Does anyone know if it has the same problems with iOS 5 that Papa Sangre had? I would love another audio thriller.

Thanks in advance.
